1) Dun stay out too late. If there's a need, stay past midnight...

2) Dun step on ashes.. If accidentally step on it, say "Alamak! paiseh la.....dun angrrryyyy l...ehhhh".

3) If some1 call u from behind, turn ur whole body back, instead of just the head if not later sprain ur head then how......

4) If smell funny smell, shout out and say "which ******* manz..better own up hor!"...if not people will mistaken u who fart...

5) Dun let your fringe cover your forehead, later got chiobu u cannot see lah....

6) Dun scold vulgarities at some dark places when u are alone. Scold also scold when there is people around la...dun waste your own breath mah...

7) If a place makes you uncomfortable, keep chanting "Na2 Mo1 Or1 Ni3 Tuo3 Fuo3...first"

8) Avoid going swimming, because now Lunar 7th month....no chiobu leh...no one to show off body to...

9) If there's a pair of shoes in the lift, but no one is in it. Check out the brand first, scarly is HERMES...sell liao still got value..

10) If you see anyone praying and blocking your way, just shout "OIEE....SIAMMM LEHH!"

11) Do not talk to strangers on a deserted stretch of road....in case people say "我不想跟你讲话。。。".

This tour provides you with the lowdown on everything you ever wanted to know about Chinese beliefs, myths and taboos. Guides will walk participants through Chinatown to look at interpretations of traditional Chinese beliefs that are part of the life cycles of birth and death. Tour participants will get opportunities to consult the Almanac and have their fortunes told. There will also be real-life demonstrations performed by priests of the Taoist Federation.

We’ll answer some burning questions too, like why it’s not safe to point at the moon, when it’s perfectly alright to not wash your hair and of course, how to have a great prosperous life

Hungry Ghost Festival Exhibition

10 Aug – 7 Sep 2010, Kreta Ayer Square, Free Entry

Staged in partnership with the Taoist Federation (Singapore), this month-long exhibition is an indepth look at the mysteries and significance of the Hungry Ghost Festval as it is celebrated in Singapore.

The exhibition area will be divided into four zones, namely introducing Traditional Chinese Festivals, understanding the Hungry Ghost Festival, Folklore and a photographic exhibition of how Hungry Ghost Festival was celebrated in the past. It will also feature rare photographs of Hungry Ghost Festival celebrations in the 70s and 80s by Mr Ronni Pinsler - a renowned heritage photographer and was recently

recognised by National Heritage Board as a Supporter of Heritage for donating over 15,000 images to the National Archives of Singapore.

Through the exhibition, visitors will better understand the significance of traditional Chinese festivals, and how they are celebrated.

Visitors will be able to sneak a peek into the mysterious world of Taoist rituals and skills, and understand the fundamental purposes of conducting such rituals during the Hungry Ghost Festival. There will also be exhibits on display to introduce the practices around the Zhong-Yuan festival, including rare Taoist relics and scriptures. A ritual appreciation and demonstration on 14 August 2010 will also introduce the salvation (chaodu) ritual to the public.

150 Chefs from Society of Chinese Cuisine Chefs (Singapore) will gather at Chinatown to challenge this amazing feat for charity! The targeted 80m long Chee Cheong Fun will write history as it gets recorded in the Singapore Book of Records! The completed Chee Cheong Fun will be pan-fried immediately on site to be sold at a nominal price to the public in efforts to raise funds for charity.

Heavy downpour floods shops and homes

SHOPS and homes along Orchard Road, Bukit Timah and Thomson Road were flooded on Wednesday morning as heavy rains swelled up canals around the central areas of Singapore. In just three hours, between 8am and 11am, 100 millimetres of rainfall were recorded. That is 60 per cent of the average rainful for June.
Hardest hit were the downtown areas, as businesses came to a halt, people scrambled for a way out, and the authorities swung into damage control.

In some areas, the flood waters rose to half a metre, fully covering open drains, sidewalks and bus stops, creating traffic chaos, especially along Dunearn Road towards the city.

The basements of some shopping malls along Orchard Road were flooded, damaging some of the retailers' goods. Over at Cluny Court's basement, the flood waters were knee-high, forcing the evacuation of about 15 cars parked there.

Lion Dance at the Wuerstelstand

As it is tradition Erich's own lions made their appearance on the 4th day of CNY. Surrounded by many locals and tourists Paul's lion dance group did another great performance.

GONG XI FA CHAI - HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR

The Year of the Golden Tiger begins on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011. The first day of the lunar New Year 2010 falls on the 14th day of February, which is Valentine's Day, the day the West celebrates as a lovers' day, a day of romance.

To the Chinese, it is the start of the Golden Tiger Year. The Tiger is the third sign in the cycle of Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 animal signs. It is a sign of courage. This fearless and fiery fighter is revered by the ancient Chinese as the sign that wards off the three main disasters of a household: fire, thieves and ghosts. On New Year's day itself, it is beneficial to celebrate, to be happy, to have smiling faces, and to refrain from scowling, quarreling, or criticizing anyone.

The Tiger is one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet, and is feared and revered in equal measure. It features in many Asian cultures as a manifestation of courage, power, passion and royalty. In Feng Shui, it is one of the four celestial animals where it takes its place as the White Tiger. The other three celestial animals are the Green Dragon, Red Phoenix and Black Tortoise. The Tiger symbolizes the female Yin energy as opposed to the Yang male energy of the dragon. Ancient Chinese believe that the markings on the forehead of tigers resemble the Chinese character for "Wang", or King. In Imperial China, where the dragon is the insignia of the emperors, the tiger is the military emblem of the highest supreme commanders of the army symbolizing fearlessness and victory.

The Tiger also represents earth, while the dragon represents Heaven. The powerful and stealth prowess of the Tiger inspires the martial art movements of manyKung-Fu masters.
